Sunderland defender Trai Hume was lauded by Josh Bunting following their 1-1 draw against Millwall.

The Lowdown: Score draw

A brave late equaliser from Dennis Cirkin rescued Sunderland a point at The Den on Saturday afternoon after Jake Cooper had put the hosts ahead just before the hour mark.

The draw leaves Sunderland two points outside the Championship play-offs with the table continuing to be a tightly knit affair that leaves both sides still firmly in the hunt.

Despite boasting 58% possession, Tony Mowbray’s side were significantly out shot with Millwall racking up 14 attempts on goal to the visitor's five (BBC), leaving intense pressure on the Mackem’s backline.

The Latest: Bunting’s praise

Following the game, Sunderland fan and journalist Bunting took to Twitter to single out one Sunderland gem in particular who put in a performance epitomising his growth in the side of late, he tweeted:

“Trai Hume Sunderland’s man of the match this afternoon for me, made a few key hard tackles which were absolutely required in that game. Tried to get forward but found that difficult. Defensively though extremely solid. Developing ridiculously well with this game-time.”

The Verdict: Impressive display

The 20-year-old started his seventh game in succession and a third consecutive game at right-back after impressing and keeping a clean sheet in the 2-0 win against Middlesbrough and 0-0 draw against Fulham in the FA Cup.

Despite being booked with the scoreline goalless, the Northern Irish youngster was awarded a joint match high of 7.5 by Sofascore alongside Millwall’s Cooper, making him the visitors' man of the match.

His mammoth defending was imperious with him winning six tackles alongside four clearances, ten ground duels won from 12 attempted, a blocked shot and an interception to help Sunderland pick up what could turn out to be a valuable point on the road.

He was a threat in possession as well, completing 100% of his dribbles and playing two key passes from 98 touches, the highest of Sunderland’s starters and four more than Patrick Roberts who he linked up with down the right-hand side, he's made that place in the side his own since the restart following the World Cup.
