# Sunderland: Black Cats show interest in Aiden O’Brien

**Sunderland have [reportedly](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/18616899.sunderland-want-sign-former-millwall-forward-aiden-obrien/) made a contract offer to Republic of Ireland international Aiden O’Brien, who is available on a free transfer.**

Black Cats manager Phil Parkinson desperately needs to improve his attacking options ahead of next season, having seen the likes of [Will Grigg](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/will-grigg/profil/spieler/106676) and [Charlie Wyke](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/charlie-wyke/profil/spieler/163535) fail to find consistent form and [Kyle Lafferty](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kyle-lafferty/profil/spieler/36884), [Antoine Semenyo](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antoine-semenyo/profil/spieler/583255) and [Duncan Watmore](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/duncan-watmore/profil/spieler/248045) all leave.

[The Northern Echo](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/18616899.sunderland-want-sign-former-millwall-forward-aiden-obrien/) reported of Sunderland’s interest and claimed that representatives from both camps have met with each other to discuss a potential move.

O’Brien, who is a free agent following his release from Championship side Millwall at the end of the season, appeared [18 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aiden-obrien/profil/spieler/148908) in the league last term, netting [three goals.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aiden-obrien/profil/spieler/148908) Having featured [five times for his national side](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aiden-obrien/nationalmannschaft/spieler/148908/verein_id/3509), the 26-year-old can play [anywhere along the forward line](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aiden-obrien/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/148908).

During his career with Millwall, O’Brien spent time on loan with Staines Town, Hayes and Yeading United, Crawley Town, Aldershot Town and Torquay United, as per [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aiden-obrien/transfers/spieler/148908).

Aside from the interest shown in O’Brien, the report from [The Northern Echo](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/18616899.sunderland-want-sign-former-millwall-forward-aiden-obrien/) also mentioned a potential move for Bailey Wright, who is available on a free transfer following his release from Bristol City.

[The Northern Echo](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/18616899.sunderland-want-sign-former-millwall-forward-aiden-obrien/) add an update on Wright’s potential move, saying that the defender’s representatives have spoken to a number of interested clubs.

O’Brien, who is valued at £428,000 by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aiden-obrien/profil/spieler/148908), would be a naturally good option for Phil Parkinson this summer, especially given that he is available on a free transfer.

A versatile attacking option with international experience, the former Millwall man could provide goals and assists next term, having plundered [44 and 16 respectively](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aiden-obrien/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/148908) in his time at The Den.
