# Sunderland: Antoine Semenyo says goodbye to the club

**Antoine Semenyo has taken to [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/CBQHouZDeGL/?utm_source=ig_embed) to say goodbye to Sunderland as his loan deal from Bristol City comes to an end.**

The Black Cats, who have missed out on a gaining a play-off place this season, will look to rebuild their side this summer. The Wearsiders are set for another year in League One after the 2019/20 was ended yesterday [via a points-per-game system](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12003537/league-one-coventry-and-rotherham-promoted-as-clubs-vote-for-season-to-end) which determined that they finish the campaign in eighth.

Semenyo, who joined Sunderland in January from Bristol City, will now [return](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antoine-semenyo/profil/spieler/583255) to his parent club ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Semenyo made seven appearances in the league for Sunderland but the London-born left winger failed to find the back of the net or gain an assist (as per [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antoine-semenyo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/583255/verein/289)).

It remains to be seen where the youngster’s future now lies, having had loan spells with [Bath City and Newport County](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antoine-semenyo/transfers/spieler/583255) over the last few seasons. A Bristol City academy graduate, Semenyo has played [16 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antoine-semenyo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/583255/verein/698) so far for their first team.

Semenyo’s exit could be the first of many from Sunderland this summer, with the club now headed for another season in League One.

He [impressed plenty of the club’s fans](https://www.footballfancast.com/league-one/sunderland/antoine-semenyo-lynden-gooch-phil-parkinson-the-black-cats-fan-reaction) during his stay at the club, although his lack of goals and assists leaves question marks on whether or not his signing was worthwhile. That being said, a potential cut-price move would be hard to reject for Sunderland if they decide to back in for him, as they will likely need to do things on the cheap this summer.
