# Sunderland: Arbenit Xhemajli interest comes to an end

**Sunderland will not be signing Arbenit Xhemajli this summer [despite recent interest](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/sunderland-wont-signing-arbenit-xhemajli-18778156) in the [Kosovo international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/arbenit-xhemajli/nationalmannschaft/spieler/354155/verein_id/53982).**

Black Cats manager Phil Parkinson will likely seek to bolster his squad this summer ahead of a third successive season in League One. Whilst [uncertainty continues to grow around the ownership](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/sunderland-afc-news/sunderland-william-storey-vows-to-spend-50m-on-transfers/) of the Wearside club, transfer links are continuing to emerge and Xhemajli is the latest name to be linked with a move to the Stadium of Light.

[Chronicle Live](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/sunderland-keeping-tabs-kosovo-international-18703353) reported of the Wearside club’s interest earlier this month, with the Kosovo centre-back currently without a club following his exit from Neuchatel Xamax.

Xhemajli, who is valued at £765,000 by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/arbenit-xhemajli/profil/spieler/354155), was born in Switzerland but represents the Kosovo national side and his impressions have seemingly left a mark on Sunderland boss Parkinson.

However, despite being [offered](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/sunderlands-summer-recruitment-salary-cap-18738490) the chance to attend a tour of the Stadium of Light and club’s training facilities, [Chronicle Live](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/sunderland-wont-signing-arbenit-xhemajli-18778156) claim that any interest in moving to England has ended.

The report added that Xhemajli has had an [offer](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/sunderland-wont-signing-arbenit-xhemajli-18778156) from elsewhere which has seen his representatives move away from talks with Sunderland.

With finances set to be tightened across the English Football League due to the [salary cap introduction](https://www.efl.com/news/2020/august/squad-salary-caps-introduced-in-league-one-and-league-two/), Sunderland may find themselves priced out of a number of transfer moves this summer.

Bringing in Xhemajli would likely have proven to be a gamble anyway, with the defender having [no experience of English football](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/arbenit-xhemajli/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/354155).
