# Sunderland: Benji Kimpioka keen to remain on Wearside amid uncertain future

**Out-of-contract winger Benji Kimpioka has said that he [would be keen to agree a new deal](https://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/football/sunderland-afc/benji-kimpioka-reveals-latest-his-future-and-where-his-sunderland-contract-talks-currently-stand-2911483) with League One side Sunderland.**

With the 2019/20 season over and the Black Cats missing out on promotion to the Championship, manager Phil Parkinson is expected to have a busy summer ahead as he looks to bolster his side and bounce back next term.

A number of first team players saw their contracts come to an end in June with one of those being [Swedish youngster Kimpioka,](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/benjamin-mbunga-kimpioka/profil/spieler/433652) whose future has become the [subject of some speculation](https://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/football/sunderland-afc/benji-kimpiokas-future-no-closer-being-resolved-sunderland-contract-nears-end-2882578).

The 20-year-old arrived on Wearside back in 2016 and has made [several first team appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/benjamin-mbunga-kimpioka/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/433652/verein/289), whilst also appearing for [Sweden at under-21 level.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/benjamin-mbunga-kimpioka/profil/spieler/433652)

Making [four appearances in League One for Sunderland this term](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/benjamin-mbunga-kimpioka/profil/spieler/433652), contributing to [2%](https://transfermarkt.co.uk/benjamin-mbunga-kimpioka/profil/spieler/433652) of the club’s goal involvements and, given that impression he left on the pitch, Parkinson would seemingly be keen for him to sign a new deal.

Speaking on his future over the weekend, the young attacking talent has hinted that he could pen new terms with the Black Cats.

*“Right now I’m waiting a bit, talking to my agent and family to see how we should do in the window that is coming,”* he is quoted as saying by [Sunderland Echo.](https://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/football/sunderland-afc/benji-kimpioka-reveals-latest-his-future-and-where-his-sunderland-contract-talks-currently-stand-2911483)

*“Sunderland is a club that I love and I like everyone there, all the coaches, players and staff in the club.*

*“We’ll see. I want to stay there, but everything is in God’s hands.”*

Sunderland have struggled to keep hold of a number of young players in recent times, with the likes of [Josh Maja](https://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/football/sunderland-afc/sunderland-afc-news-bordeaux-manager-makes-surprising-josh-maja-admission-plus-injury-latest-1-9602708) and [Duncan Watmore](https://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/football/sunderland-afc/sunderland-retained-list-duncan-watmore-one-five-leave-jon-mclaughlin-chris-maguire-and-tom-flanagan-offered-new-deals-2887477) leaving the Stadium Light. Therefore, it would be a shot in the arm to hold of Kimpioka.

The 20-year-old seems to have a promising future, given his status as an underage international, and he appears to be an exciting young talent who could prove to be a promising attacking option for Parkinson’s promotion push next term.
