# Sunderland: Brian Marwood not involved in potential takeover bid

**[Chronicle LIVE](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/city-football-group-global-md-18607097) have reported that Brian Marwood is not involved in any potential takeover bid at Sunderland.**

The Wearsiders downfall from the Premier League to League One has been [heavily documented](https://www.netflix.com/title/80207046) over the last few years and a second successive failure to gain promotion has added further criticism to owner Stewart Donald.

Donald has been the focal point of [fan critique](https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/destroying-the-club-keep-digging-for-the-truth-these-sunderland-fans-react-to-latest-stewart-donald-financial-claim/) over the last 12 months and even more so after he sensationally revealed that he wanted to sell the club after just [19 months.](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/amp/football/50955375)

Two potential owners have been linked with a takeover, seeing Chinese businessman [Sammy Yu](https://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/football/sunderland-afc/sammy-yu-confirms-takeover-interest-why-hes-unlikely-take-charge-sunderland-2911778) and [Mark Campbell](https://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/football/sunderland-afc/mark-campbell-monitoring-sunderland-situation-no-takeover-deal-close-2913537) linked with a bid.

Now, also linked with a potential bid is City Football Group Global Managing Director Marwood, having been [reported](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/city-football-group-global-md-18607097) to be part of a consortium who were edging closer to a bid.

The former professional footballer has followed up his playing career with taking up some executive football roles, including serving as chairman of the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) and being employed by Premier League giants Manchester City.

However, the Chronicle report states: *“Sources have indicated that there is absolutely no truth in the reports.”*

This needs to be done and dusted. Fans of the club are growing completely fed up and out of sync with the club and Donald must makes moves to sell the club as soon as possible. Indeed, the [Northern Echo](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/18571659.breakdown-trust-causing-serious-problems-sunderland/) even suggested recently that fans no longer believe a word that the club says.

If no deal is done, it could be a very dismal season next term for the Black Cats.
