# Sunderland: Charlie Goode responds to latest transfer rumours

**Sunderland target Charlie Goode has [responded](https://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/sport/football/goode-aware-transfer-speculation-loving-his-time-cobblers-2934934) to the latest transfer rumours about his future and where he will play next season.**

Black Cats manager Phil Parkinson is desperate to bolster his squad ahead of next season having finished eighth in the League One table, missing out on promotion for a second successive year.

As the [pressure mounts](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/sunderland-afc-news/sunderland-kevin-phillips-transfer-budget-claim-parkinson/) on Parkinson, the 52-year-old coach has already sealed the double signing of [Bailey Wright](https://www.safc.com/news/team-news/2020/july/bailey-wright-returns-to-sunderland) and [Aiden O’Brien.](https://www.safc.com/news/team-news/2020/july/obrien-signs-for-sunderland)

Following those deals, interest in Goode has [emerged](https://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/sport/football/no-bids-goode-thomas-insists-clubs-will-have-dig-deep-if-they-want-cobblers-skipper-2927574) after the defender had an impressive season with Northampton Town.

The Cobblers captain led his team to promotion from League Two last month via the play-off final and those performances prompted transfer interest from a whole host of Championship clubs, with [Sky Sports](https://twitter.com/SkySports_Keith/status/1288457824805289985?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)‘ northeast correspondent Keith Downie reporting the news.

With interest starting to develop in the [£1m](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/exclusive-northampton-record-fee-charlie-goode-middlesbrough-qpr)-valued defender, QPR seemed to have won the race earlier this week, judging by a claim from football columnist and agent [Michael Vennerholm](https://twitter.com/michvennerholm/status/1290906333013827585?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1290906333013827585%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.footballtransfertavern.com%2Fsunderland-transfer-rumours%2Fsunderland-charlie-goode-transfer-blow-qpr%2F).

However, Goode has discussed his future and seemingly rubbished that report, telling [Northampton Chronicle](https://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/sport/football/goode-aware-transfer-speculation-loving-his-time-cobblers-2934934): *“My focus is on the pitch, (The rumours are) something I’m aware of but at the end of the day I play for Northampton and that won’t change until my last day at the club.*

*“My focus is as normal and I’m just looking forward to the new season. I’ve loved every minute I’ve had at this club.”*

*“I came here to get promoted last season and I’ve helped us achieve that – but it doesn’t stop now.”*

Whilst the comments made by Goode offer hope that the reported move to QPR is far from a done deal, he still seems keen to ply his trade with Northampton.

Of course, a lucrative contract offer could tempt him to leave, but it remains to be seen if a summer transfer window move to Sunderland will materialise.
