# Sunderland: Charlie Goode set for Queens Park Rangers move as Black Cats miss out

**Sunderland are set to miss out on Charlie Goode after a football agent claimed on Twitter that the Northampton Town defender is set to join Queens Park Rangers.**

Black Cats manager Phil Parkinson is seemingly desperate to bolster his squad options this summer ahead of the 2020/21 season as [pressure continues](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/sunderland-afc-news/sunderland-kevin-phillips-transfer-budget-claim-parkinson/) to mount after failing to gain promotion from League One.

Having already sealed the double signing of [Bailey Wright](https://www.safc.com/news/team-news/2020/july/bailey-wright-returns-to-sunderland) and [Aiden O’Brien](https://www.safc.com/news/team-news/2020/july/obrien-signs-for-sunderland), Goode had [emerged](https://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/sport/football/no-bids-goode-thomas-insists-clubs-will-have-dig-deep-if-they-want-cobblers-skipper-2927574) as a potential arrival on Wearside after an impressive season with Northampton Town.

The Cobblers captain led his team to promotion from League Two last month via the play-off final and his performances initially led to interest from a whole host of Championship clubs, with [Sky Sports](https://twitter.com/SkySports_Keith/status/1288457824805289985?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)‘ northeast correspondent Keith Downie reporting the news.

With interest starting to develop in the [£1m](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/exclusive-northampton-record-fee-charlie-goode-middlesbrough-qpr)-valued defender, QPR now seem to have won the race for his signature.

Football columnist and agent Michael Vennerholm has claimed that a deal is set to be announced in the coming hours with a transfer fee of £1m said to have been enough to lure the defender to the Championship club.

QPR’s Championship rivals Preston North End and Blackburn Rovers were [also keen to pursue the defender.](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/exclusive-northampton-record-fee-charlie-goode-middlesbrough-qpr)

Sunderland seem to have lost out in the race to sign Goode but perhaps paying £1m for a defender who has just been promoted from League Two is not the most sensible move in the current climate.

[Finances are tight for many Football League clubs](https://www.accountancydaily.co/efl-football-clubs-suffer-most-financial-distress) and cut-price deals may be more advisory at this moment in time.
