# Sunderland: Black Cats linked with Northampton’s Charlie Goode

**Sunderland have been linked with a potential move for Northampton Town captain Charlie Goode, according to the [Northampton Chronicle.](https://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/sport/football/no-bids-goode-thomas-insists-clubs-will-have-dig-deep-if-they-want-cobblers-skipper-2927574)**

Black Cats manager Phil Parkinson could look to the transfer market this summer as he seeks to bolster his squad options ahead of the 2020/21 season.

An eighth-placed finish in League One last term saw Sunderland fail for a second consecutive season to get out of the division and [pressure will firmly be on Parkinson to deliver the goods next term.](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/sunderland-afc-news/sunderland-kevin-phillips-transfer-budget-claim-parkinson/)

He appears to be determined to address his defensive options judging by the reported interest in Goode, with the [renewal of Tom Flanagan’s contract](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/tom-flanagan-signs-new-deal-18657394#:~:text=Tom%20Flanagan%20will%20stay%20with,at%20the%20end%20of%20June.) a positive step towards bolstering the Wearsiders’ defensive ranks.

With [transfer gossip now starting to develop](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/sunderland-transfer-news-live-graham-18407667), Goode has been linked with a move to the Stadium of Light.

The Northampton captain led his team to promotion from League Two last month via the play-off final and his performances have now led to interest from both Middlesbrough and Queens Park Rangers, according to [Sky Sports’](https://twitter.com/SkySports_Keith/status/1288457824805289985?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) northeast correspondent Keith Downie.

Downie added that the 24-year-old centre-back is valued at £750,000, despite [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/charlie-goode/profil/spieler/376856) having his value currently set at £90,000.

Judging by Downie’s tweet, Sunderland appear to be third in line in terms of the interested clubs in Goode and, if his value is set at just under the £1m mark, you would expect the Black Cats’ interest to disappear in the wake of the Championship duo.

Goode had a superb season last term, scoring [three goals from defence in 36 league starts](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/charlie-goode/leistungsdaten/spieler/376856), and a move to the Championship would be a superb reward for his hard-work and consistency. Unfortunately, it would also mean Sunderland missing out on him.
