# Sunderland: Danny Graham discusses return to Black Cats

**New Sunderland signing Danny Graham has [revealed](https://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/football/sunderland-afc/danny-grahams-first-words-after-returning-sunderland-he-discusses-his-past-spell-fitness-and-field-targets-2964272) that he can’t wait to get back in action for the club after rejoining the Wearsiders this week.**

Black Cats manager Phil Parkinson has been seeking to bolster his attacking options after failing to gain automatic promotion or even a play-off place last season and Graham has [returned](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/breaking-danny-graham-signs-sunderland-18893162#:~:text=Sunderland%20have%20signed%20free%20agent,42%20appearances%20for%20the%20club.) to the Stadium of Light after leaving Championship side Blackburn this summer following the [expiry of his contract](https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2020/july/rovers-confirm-player-departures/) at Ewood Park.

The experienced striker, who is valued at £428,000 by [Transfermarkt,](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-graham/leistungsdaten/spieler/29152) has [170](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-graham/leistungsdaten/spieler/29152) career goals to his name but only netted once [in 42 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-graham/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/29152/verein/289) for Sunderland between 2013 and 2016.

Speaking for the first time after becoming a Black Cats player for the second time his career, Graham revealed his desire to make more of an impact than he did during his first spell.

*“To be brutally honest, it didn’t work out,”* he told [safc.com](https://www.safc.com/news/team-news/2020/september/danny-graham-first-interview).

*“It was a tough time for me in my football career. I don’t know why it didn’t work out, whatever reason, but for me that’s gone.*

*“I’m in a different place, Sunderland as a football club is in a different place, and I’ve come back to try and help get us out the league.”*

Graham will join the likes of Will Grigg and Charlie Wyke among Parkinson’s attacking options and could feature this Saturday as they begin their League One campaign against Bristol Rovers.

Graham’s move to Sunderland may be met with some scrutiny by fans of the club, especially after his first spell ended up being a failure.

Sunderland boss Parkinson needs to ensure that his strikers do [better than last season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sunderland-afc/leistungsdaten/verein/289/plus/0?reldata=%262019) if he is able to guide the Wearsiders to promotion.
