# Sunderland: Danny Graham talk continues as Phil Parkinson hints at striker arrival

**Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson has [touched](https://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/football/sunderland-afc/sunderland-boss-reveals-latest-transfer-targets-danny-graham-and-arbenit-xhemajli-2953005) on his interest in signing Danny Graham following his side’s 3-1 win over Carlisle United.**

The Black Cats stepped up their preparations for next season with a solid win over Carlisle in a game which saw Charlie Wyke (2) and Chris Maguire find the back of the net.

Approaching the new season, Parkinson is seemingly desperate to bring in a new striker option and links to former striker [Graham](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/league-one/sunderland/sunderland-danny-graham-transfer-latest/) have been consistent of late in the media.

Experienced striker Graham is currently available on a free transfer after leaving Championship side Blackburn this summer due to his [contract expiration.](https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2020/july/rovers-confirm-player-departures/)

Discussing his interest in Graham following the pre-season win over Carlisle, Parkinson [said](https://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/football/sunderland-afc/sunderland-boss-reveals-latest-transfer-targets-danny-graham-and-arbenit-xhemajli-2953005): *“As I said, Danny is a quality striker.*

*“He can hold the ball up, get us goals, and he’s someone we’re interested in.*

*“Without going over old ground, with the financial constraints we’re in, we’ve got to get the best players available within the salary cap realm.*

*“He’s one of a few we’re looking at, there are a few others.*

*“The squad is decent, we know we’re not yet there yet but we’re piecing it together.”*

Ending a four-and-a-half year stay at Ewood Park, Graham who is valued at £428,000 by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-graham/leistungsdaten/spieler/29152) would seemingly come in and make an impact at the Stadium of Light given his scoring record in English football, with [169](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-graham/leistungsdaten/spieler/29152) strikes to his name.

Whether it is Graham or another, Sunderland need a new and consistent striker to come in to the club.

Phil Parkinson can simply not rely on the likes of [Will Grigg and Charlie Wyke](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/sunderland-afc-news/sunderland-will-griggs-pre-season-form-has-phil-parkinson-pleased/) next season, having seen them struggle for consistency over the last 12 months.
