# Sunderland: Danny Graham emerges as potential summer signing

**Sunderland are showing interest in former Blackburn Rovers striker Danny Graham, according to Alan Nixon.**

After failing to gain promotion from League One for a second consecutive season in 2019/20, Black Cats manager Phil Parkinson could look to bolster his attacking options, having seen the likes of [Charlie Wyke](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/charlie-wyke/profil/spieler/163535) and [Will Grigg](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/will-grigg/profil/spieler/106676) struggle to find the back of the net on a consistent basis.

Linked with a potential move for [Sydney FC striker Adam Le Fondre](https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/exclusive-sunderland-and-portsmouth-among-clubs-eyeing-33-year-old/), the Wearsiders are also looking towards former Watford, Swansea, Wolves and Middlesbrough man Graham.

The 34-year-old striker [recently left Blackburn](https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2020/july/rovers-confirm-player-departures/) on a free transfer, ending a four-and-a-half year stay at Ewood Park.

Journalist Alan Nixon was among the first to report Sunderland’s interest in Graham, tweeting:

> Sunderland. In meantime Parkinson is hoping to keep O’Nien on a new deal and taking an interest in Danny Graham.

Graham has scored an impressive [53 goals in 152 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-graham/leistungsdaten/spieler/29152) for the Championship club, despite a rather lacklustre 2019/20 season which saw him net just [four goals in 38 appearances.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-graham/profil/spieler/29152)

Graham’s poor goalscoring record last season could be viewed as a sign of a player in decline but the striker is vastly experienced and he could turn out to be a useful addition for the League One club next term.

Sunderland, however, may be better suited to find a younger option and build for the future instead of going for a short-term fix in a man who was previously at the club but [loaned out four times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-graham/transfers/spieler/29152) during his Wearside tenure.
