# Sunderland: Club failed in bid to sign Danny Graham this summer

**Sunderland’s chase for former Blackburn Rovers striker Danny Graham has hit a standstill, [according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon.](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/sunderland-transfer-news-live-matthews-18407667)**

After seeing the likes of [Charlie Wyke](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/charlie-wyke/profil/spieler/163535) and [Will Grigg](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/will-grigg/profil/spieler/106676) both struggle for consistency last term, Black Cats boss Phil Parkinson must now look to address his options in attack as pressure continues to mount.

Experienced striker Graham has been [touted for a potential move to the club](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/league-one/sunderland/sunderland-danny-graham-transfer-latest/) after leaving Ewood Park this summer due to his [contract expiration.](https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2020/july/rovers-confirm-player-departures/)

Ending a four-and-a-half year stay with Rovers, the striker who is valued at £428,000 by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-graham/leistungsdaten/spieler/29152) would seemingly make a good addition for Sunderland given his scoring record in the Football League which stands at [169.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-graham/leistungsdaten/spieler/29152)

Matching Sunderland’s interest is League One rivals Ipswich Town with Paul Lambert claimed by [East Anglian Daily Times](https://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/ipswich-town-transfer-target-danny-graham-1-6784119) to have shown interest.

Following on from that news, it now appears, however, that the Wearsiders have failed in their pursuit of the 34-year-old.

Sun reporter Nixon opted to follow up a tweet that shared a claim that Parkinson failed to sign two players last week before the salary cap was introduced in the English Football League, suggesting that Graham was one of those.

Ipswich now look front runners then to sign Graham. Sunderland fans will be a little bemused if Lambert manages to sign the striker and the Black Cats do not, but the salary cap is now starting to have a drastic outlook on some clubs in League One and League Two.

Quite who Parkinson plans to target next is a big question?
