# Sunderland: Fans fume at Aiden McGeady update

**A number of Sunderland fans have been left fuming at an update regarding Aiden McGeady, with the winger potentially not facing Lincoln City this weekend.**

The Black Cats suffered a hugely disappointing night at the office on Wednesday evening, as they travelled to Lincoln for the first leg of the League One playoff semi-final.

Lee Johnson’s side [lost 2-0](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57082259) at Sincil Bank, giving them a huge amount of work to do in Saturday’s rematch at the Stadium of Light.

Someone who has been a key player for Sunderland is McGeady, with the veteran wide man [scoring 33 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aiden-mcgeady/alletore/spieler/21333) in 132 appearances for the club.

While the Irishman played the whole 90 minutes in midweek, [*The Chronicle*](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/sunderland-aiden-mcgeady-contract-stand-20639939?t=)‘s James Hunter reports that he will be entitled to a new deal if he starts one more game this season, with his current contract [expiring](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aiden-mcgeady/profil/spieler/21333) in the summer.

With Sunderland potentially not wanting to retain McGeady’s services beyond that point, Johnson finds himself in a tricky situation.
