# Sunderland: Fans furious over outcome of League One vote

**Many Sunderland fans have been tweeting about the League One vote on how the 2019/20 season will come to an end.**

Clubs from League One have [voted to end the season](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12003537/league-one-coventry-and-rotherham-promoted-as-clubs-vote-for-season-to-end) after regulations about how to end the campaign were approved, with the final table decided on a points-per-game (PPG) basis. Today’s decision sees Coventry and Rotherham promoted, with Oxford, Portsmouth, Fleetwood and Wycombe going into the play-offs and Sunderland consigned to another season in the third tier.

Along with Pompey and Ipswich Town, the Black Cats had [previously voiced their opposition to the use of PPG](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52670556), although their wishes have ultimately fallen on deaf ears.

Football in England has been suspended since March 13 due to the coronavirus pandemic, and whilst the Premier League and Championship are set to return, England’s [third](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12003537/league-one-coventry-and-rotherham-promoted-as-clubs-vote-for-season-to-end) and [fourth tier](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12003520/league-two-swindon-champions-crewe-and-plymouth-promoted-as-clubs-vote-to-end-season) were today brought to a premature end.

In order for a campaign to be curtailed, [51% of sides in any given EFL division](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52705124) had to agree to it and, now that the decision has been taken to end the season, many Black Cats fans have taken to Twitter to voice their disgust at the outcome.

Following this afternoon’s huge blow, these Sunderland fans hit out at the club’s owner Stewart Donald, results and the season in general…

> Absolutely peak [#SAFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/SAFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) that we just managed to fit in our worst performance of the season before the season was stopped to ensure we miss out on the play offs.

> L1 for a 3rd consecutive season. For me at least, 100% of the blame lies with Stewart Donald for making the squad 10x worse in the summer and not backing Parkinson in January
