# Sunderland: Fans unimpressed as Jim Rodwell outlines plans for 11 out-of-contract players

**Sunderland chief executive officer Jim Rodwell has offered an update into the contracts of a number of first team players after the League One season came to an end.**

The Black Cats, who missed out on a gaining a play-off spot this season, will look to rebuild their squad this summer ahead of what will be a third successive campaign in England’s third tier. The Wearsiders’ end to the season was determined via [a points-per-game system](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12003537/league-one-coventry-and-rotherham-promoted-as-clubs-vote-for-season-to-end) which saw them drop from seventh to eighth position in the league standings.

Reacting to Rodwell’s comments, these Sunderland fans had mixed views:

> Not sure we should be that desperate to retain players that collectively finished 8th in league one. Good recruitment of new blood needed.

> What a lot of nonsense, Rodwell must think we are stupid, as for a meeting with Richard Hill and the rest of them how uplifting is that…
