# Sunderland: Fans slam Will Grigg after Lee Johnson comments

**Some Sunderland fans have been slamming Will Grigg after comments made by Lee Johnson, which were relayed by [The Chronicle](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/new-sunderland-boss-lee-johnson-19427837).**

As per the news outlet, the newly-appointed manager of the Black Cats said in the wake of their win in the EFL trophy against Oldham Athletic:

*“I’ll just keeping working with him and keep trying to educate him to what I want.*

*“Eventually, you’ll get those three or four goals on the spin where you get those little ricochets or a lovely little finish, and all of a sudden the confidence comes back and you dink one over the keeper.*

*“Then the fans come back onside and Will Grigg’s on fire again.”*

Grigg has certainly not been on fire so far in the 2020/21 term, as the Northern Ireland international has [yet](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/will-grigg/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/106676/plus/0?saison=2020&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) to break his goal scoring duck in eight games in all competitions.

In fact, in 57 matches in total over all competitions across the past three consecutive seasons, the 29 year-old has only managed to find the back of the net a mere eight times ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/will-grigg/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/106676/plus/0?saison=&verein=289&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=)).

The striker will surely need to step up his game or risk falling further down the pecking order to the likes of Charlie Wyke, Danny Graham or Aiden O’Brien.

### Sunderland fan reaction to Johnson comments on Grigg

These members of the Stadium of Light faithful slammed Grigg on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/JHunterChron/status/1336709822268514304) after reading the comments on him by Johnson, with one SAFC supporter even claiming that the forward is a ‘damp squib’ while another claimed that he ‘looks uninterested’:

> For me he doesn’t look interested at all, hope he proves me wrong though

> Finished for me Stu, looks uninterested, lacking in ability and desire!!! Going through the motions on a weekly basis……doesn’t want to be here. Move him on in January to relieve the wage bill.
