# Sunderland: Luke Garbutt comments about his future and next move re-emerge

**Sunderland target Luke Garbutt has [discussed](https://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/football/sunderland-afc/what-sunderland-target-luke-garbutt-has-said-about-his-next-move-phil-parkinson-eyes-alternative-targets-2934679) his future and where he could be playing his football next season.**

The race to sign former Everton defender Garbutt is very much starting to develop with both Sunderland and [Ipswich Town](https://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/sunderland-target-move-for-luke-garbutt-1-6778913) showing increased interest.

With the summer transfer window now live, Black Cats boss Phil Parkinson has already made what appear to be good signings, bringing in [Bailey Wright](https://www.safc.com/news/team-news/2020/july/bailey-wright-returns-to-sunderland) and [Aiden O’Brien](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53578913), whilst [Tom Flanagan](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/tom-flanagan-signs-new-deal-18657394#:~:text=Tom%20Flanagan%20will%20stay%20with,at%20the%20end%20of%20June.) signed a new deal to remain at the club.

And, Garbutt has now [emerged](https://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/football/sunderland-afc/phil-parkinson-targeting-moves-scott-fraser-and-luke-garbutt-he-continues-his-sunderland-overhaul-2933805) as a potential new arrival with the full-back leaving [Goodison Park this summer due to his contract expiration.](https://www.transfermarkt.us/luke-garbutt/profil/spieler/110860)

The 27-year-old defender spent the last [two seasons](https://www.transfermarkt.us/luke-garbutt/profil/spieler/110860) on loan in League One, firstly with Oxford United and then with Ipswich Town, and [Sunderland Echo](https://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/football/sunderland-afc/what-sunderland-target-luke-garbutt-has-said-about-his-next-move-phil-parkinson-eyes-alternative-targets-2934679) have looked back on comments he previously made this summer about his future.

Speaking to the [East Anglian Daily Times](https://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/luke-garbutt-ipswich-town-interview-1-6703081) earlier this summer, Garbutt said: *“The loan at Ipswich has been great for me and the fans have been brilliant.*

*“My agent will have discussions with Ipswich and multiple other clubs, probably, and we’ll assess it from there.”*

Garbutt, who spent nine years with Premier League side Everton is valued by website [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luke-garbutt/profil/spieler/110860) at £540,000.

It does seem very much a two horse race between Sunderland and Ipswich Town for the signature of Garbutt.

Sunderland Echo’s re-release of the comments made by the defender on his future act as a gentle reminder perhaps to Sunderland that Ipswich are slight favourites to seal a move.
