# Sunderland: Alan Nixon drops Nathan Broadhead claim

**Reliable [journalist](https://twitter.com/reluctantnicko) Alan Nixon says [Sunderland](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/sunderland-afc-news/) likely still need ‘another striker’ amid links to Everton’s Nathan Broadhead.**

### The Lowdown: Broadhead’s next steps

The forward spent last season out [on loan](https://www.safc.com/news/team-news/2021/august/broadhead-arrives-on-loan) at the Stadium of Light, where he hugely impressed, playing a significant role in the Black Cats achieving promotion to the [Championship](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/championship-news/).

It’s recently been [reported](https://twitter.com/JamesCopley_/status/1554755455414583296?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1554755455414583296%7Ctwgr%5E32b4c4f6e37668dbc7b9673e957f08e145015976%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fd-99444230397437030.ampproject.net%2F2207181727000%2Fframe.html) that the Toffees have offered the 24-year-old a new contract in a bid to keep him at Goodison Park after [interest](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/20220636.sunderland-hold-talks-jack-clarke-nathan-broadhead/) from Wearside was reignited, though a loan move could still be completed this summer regardless.

### The Latest: Nixon’s update

Asked by a fan whether Sunderland are still chasing Broadhead’s signature, Nixon [hinted at Broadhead or indeed another forward coming in](https://twitter.com/reluctantnicko/status/1554168009568182273?s=21&t=T7V8Qnq0rBC4QJ4h1ayVwQ):

*“Could do with another striker … but no guarantee of a game …”*

### The Verdict: Bring him back

Alex Neil will be hoping to bolster his ranks with further attacking options to provide competition and cover for Ross Stewart, and after [completing](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/62108012) the permanent signing of Jack Clarke, Broadhead would surely be a player who would also be welcomed back with open arms.

During his time at Sunderland last season, the Welshman netted [13](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathan-broadhead/leistungsdaten/spieler/344009/plus/0?saison=2021) goals across all competitions and was a star performer in League One, with his performances having a massive hand in the Black Cats making it all the way to the play-off final.

Albeit temporarily, a return to the northeast is very much a possibility, and the boss would surely have no hesitation in getting Broadhead back if the right opportunity was to arise in the final few weeks of the transfer window.
