# Sunderland: Phil Parkinson keen to add new faces before window shuts

**Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson has revealed that he still wants to add new faces to his squad before the transfer window closes in October.**

After a rather dismal and unforgettable opening day draw with Bristol Rovers, the Wearsiders bounced back with a much improved showing against Oxford United at the weekend, beating Karl Robinson’s side 2-0 away from home thanks to goals from Luke O’Nien and Lynden Gooch.

The win means Parkinson’s side have gained four points out of a possible six which puts them in good stead for the game against potential promotion rivals Peterborough at the weekend.

Having worked hard over the summer to [bring in](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/afc-sunderland/transfers/verein/289) some new faces at the Stadium of Light, [Parkinson has now reiterated his desire to add some further signings before the window closes on October 16.](https://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/football/sunderland-afc/sunderland-afc-transfer-and-takeover-news-live-stewart-donald-returns-scene-cats-eye-new-signing-2977951)

As quoted by [Sunderland Echo](https://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/football/sunderland-afc/sunderland-afc-transfer-and-takeover-news-live-stewart-donald-returns-scene-cats-eye-new-signing-2977951), Parkinson said:

*“It’s such a difficult balancing act because we have a limited amount left to spend, purely because of the salary cap.*

*“We’ve got to spend it wisely but of course, the U21s don’t count so we’re searching as well for a player or two in that category who can give us a lift.*

*“They’ve got to be better than what we’ve got and as I’ve said all along about bringing players in on loan, we’ve got good young players.”*

Thus far, Sunderland fans have seen the likes of [Bailey Wright, Morgan Feeney and former striker Danny Graham all come in to the club.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/afc-sunderland/transfers/verein/289)

Saturday’s win should be a good moment for the Sunderland players and Parkinson to use as a potential morale boost and kick start to what they hope will prove to be a promotion winning season.

A couple of new additions will be important between now and October 16 and perhaps Parkinson could look to add a little bit more experience, given that he has signed young players well this summer.
