# Sunderland: Phil Parkinson addresses Danny Graham transfer interest

**Sunderland manager Phil Parkinson has [said](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/18695311.phil-parkinson-confirms-arbenit-xhemajli-deal-sunderland/) that a decision over the potential signing of Danny Graham could come next week.**

Black Cats boss Parkinson is seemingly keen to bolster his attacking options after failing to gain automatic promotion or even a play-off place last season.

[Linked with a return](https://twitter.com/reluctantnicko/status/1287301135758491649?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1287301135758491649%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.footballtransfertavern.com%2Fleague-one%2Fsunderland%2Fsunderland-danny-graham-transfer-latest%2F) to Sunderland, Graham has recently left Championship side Blackburn after his [contract expired](https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2020/july/rovers-confirm-player-departures/) at Ewood Park. The experienced striker, who is valued at £428,000 by [Transfermarkt,](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-graham/leistungsdaten/spieler/29152) has [170](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-graham/leistungsdaten/spieler/29152) career goals to his name.

With The Sun’s Alan Nixon [claiming](https://twitter.com/reluctantnicko/status/1299998614106841090?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1299998614106841090%7Ctwgr%5Eshare_3&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.footballtransfertavern.com%2Fsunderland-transfer-rumours%2Fsunderland-danny-graham-training%2F) that Graham was training with the Black Cats in a bid to prove his fitness, Parkinson has now said that a decision on a possible deal could be made next week.

*“Danny’s a player we’ve spoken to, along with a number of other players in that position,”* he told [The Northern Echo](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/18695311.phil-parkinson-confirms-arbenit-xhemajli-deal-sunderland/). *“There is an interest, as I’ve said already, and we’re working on that alongside another couple of things that could probably happen next week.”*

Graham netted just one goal [in 42 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-graham/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/29152/verein/289) for Sunderland between 2013 and 2016 and a potential return could be met with some reticence from fans.

If the Black Cats are to make a move for the veteran striker, they should act quickly with the new season fast approaching, and Parkinson will likely want to have him on board by the time they [begin their League One campaign](https://www.safc.com/fixtures#Sep) against Bristol Rovers next Saturday.

Graham’s potential move to Sunderland could hand them some much-needed experience and goals, but whether or not he can prove his fitness remains to be seen.

One thing is for sure, Parkinson needs to bring in a new goalscorer rapidly after the [subdued returns from Will Grigg and Charlie Wyke](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sunderland-afc/leistungsdaten/verein/289/plus/0?reldata=%262019) last season.
