Under Phil Parkinson earlier on in the campaign, the 34-year-old couldn’t really get a look-in. He didn’t even play a single minute in League One until the 16th match of the campaign ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aiden-mcgeady/leistungsdaten/spieler/21333)) as the Black Cats won just [six](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aiden-mcgeady/leistungsdaten/spieler/21333) of their first 15 games.

However, he has been fantastic since Lee Johnson came in. In [13](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aiden-mcgeady/leistungsdaten/spieler/21333) games in the third tier, he has two goals and nine assists, while he also scored two in the EFL Trophy as Sunderland have made it to the final.
