According to Football Insider sources, Sunderland's George Dobson is on the verge of completing a move to Charlton Athletic.

The Lowdown: SAFC exodus

After the Black Cats narrowly missed out on promotion to the Championship last term, there has been somewhat of an exodus from the Stadium of Light.

Max Power, Josh Scowen and Grant Leadbitter are just three of the players who have left the club (The Northern Echo), while Charlie Wyke is close to a switch to Celtic.

The Latest: Dobson closes in on exit

Now, it has been revealed by a Football Insider source that Dobson is close to securing a move to Charlton, one of Sunderland's rivals for promotion.

The report even says the terms have been agreed, and now only the official confirmation awaits.

The Verdict: No great loss

This departure will be no great loss in the long-term for Sunderland. Former Black Cats boss Phil Parkinson called the midfielder, who has six career goals to his name, "immense" in 2019,  but his influence has reduced since then.

Last term, he managed just 12 appearances in all competitions for Sunderland before he moved on loan to Wimbledon (Transfermarkt).

With one year left on his contract, the north-east outfit will at least manage to pick up some kind of fee if they do sell, which they can reinvest in boosting their own squad. This is one exit that is unlikely to be unpopular amongst the fans.

In other news, Sunderland fans want to sign this international.
