According to Football League World, Sunderland are among a number of clubs interested in Morecambe winger Carlos Mendes Gomes.

Black Cats eye Mendes Gomes

Mendes Gomes has managed 15 goals for the League Two outfit so far this campaign, taking his career tally to 17 (Transfermarkt).

As such, he is attracting interest from across the English footballing pyramid. Along with the Black Cats, Hull City, Peterborough United, Swansea City, Barnsley, Cardiff City, Luton Town and Huddersfield Town are all said to be in pursuit.

Talented

Mendes Gomes has been influential in Morecambe's impressive season. They are currently in fourth place in League Two, with a spot in the play-offs all but secured. Unfortunately, a 1-0 loss to Bolton on Saturday means it will be hard for them to go up automatically, but they can still be proud of their performances, and Mendes Gomes has been crucial to their relative success - that was underlined when Morecambe boss Derek Adams called him "tremendous" recently (via Lanchashire Post).

If Sunderland are to land the 22-year-old's signature, they will have to beat off a number of sides who are better placed than themselves. The majority of the clubs mentioned as interested are currently playing in the Championship, Hull have already secured promotion from League One (BBC) and Peterborough should soon be joining them.

Still, given Sunderland's history and heritage, they could always be in with a chance of securing an up-and-coming player from the Football League.

In other news, many Sunderland fans slammed this man's performance against Accrington Stanley.
