Sunderland: Chanka Zimba could arrive after previous Black Cats trial

Sunderland could make a summer move for Blackburn Rovers youngster Chanka Zimba, who is free to leave Ewood Park.
Failure to gain promotion to the Championship for a second successive season has left manager Phil Parkinson with a huge task ahead of next term. He must now look to the summer transfer window to rebuild his side and establish a group of players capable of gaining a return to England’s second tier.
One of those players who could potentially arrive is young centre-forward Zimba, who is now a free agent.
The 18-year-old has been playing for Rovers’ under-18 side, making a total of 14 appearances in which he largely impressed, netting eight goals. Now available on a free transfer, the young talent could become a target for Sunderland, having had a trial at the club back in March.
Zimba’s potential arrival would hand Parkinson a new striker to join the likes of Will Grigg and Charlie Wyke, who between them managed only nine goals in the whole of 2019/20.
If Sunderland were to make a move for Zimba, it could prove to be a superb bit of business.
Whilst the young talent is untried at senior level, the 18-year-old could relish the chance to impress for the Black Cats and Parkinson could be handed a superb developing talent if Sunderland can secure his services.
