Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson is keen on making a move for ex-Everton defender Luke Garbutt, according to Sunderland Echo.
The pressure mounting on Black Cats boss Parkinson will continue to rise this summer as the 2020/21 season edges closer.
A failure to gain promotion from League One to the Championship last season was Parkinson’s first in charge but the club’s second consecutively.
With the summer transfer window now live, the 52-year-old coach has already made some shrewd signings, bringing in Bailey Wright and Aiden O’Brien, whilst Tom Flanagan signed a new deal to remain at the club.
With transfer gossip rife, it has now emerged that the Wearside club could be looking at former Everton defender Garbutt.
Sunderland Echo claim that Sunderland are interested citing another report that claims Parkinson believes that Garbutt has the attributes and attitude to fit well into his system.
The report that adds Garbutt to Sunderland’s list of potential summer arrivals also includes a link to former Burton Albion midfielder Scott Fraser.
This would be a really good signing for Sunderland and one that would add some real talent to his defensive backline. Indeed, he is a full-back who loves to get forward and his stats from the last two seasons are impressive having netted a combined 10 goals and provided 11 assists from his time at Oxford and Ipswich.
Garbutt’s link to the Stadium of Light is also included in a report linking Scott Fraser and if both of those players can be tempted to arrive on Wearside, fans will be a little be happier.
