Sunderland prospect Daniel Neil came in from praise for his performance in the Black Cats’ friendly win over Harrogate Town at the weekend.
Sunderland have suffered a difficult spell of late both on and off the field, amplified by a whole host of young players leaving the Stadium of Light. Neil, who has revealed his desire to play for the Black Cats this coming season, has been a concern with the aforementioned interest.
Despite the ongoing rumours, Neil has forced his way into Phil Parkinson’s first team plans after impressing during pre-season matches against Gateshead and Carlisle United, and his latest showing against Harrogate has impressed Sunderland Echo journalist Smith.
“Only had a short amount of time to impress but he did so again, producing a fine assist that allowed Grigg to net the winner. As Parkinson noted the other day, his weight of pass is almost always impressive and was so again here. 7,” he wrote in his player ratings following the weekend fixture.
Sunderland secured victory over Harrogate thanks to a late goal from striker Will Grigg, following on from their wins over Gateshead and Carlisle.
Neil seems to be a bright talent, judging by the Premier League interest shown in him, and the good news for Sunderland fans is that the youngster wants to continue with the club for the foreseeable future.
His performance against Harrogate, even if it was in a friendly, should help him in his attempts to forge his way into Parkinson’s first team plans in the long run.
