Wolverhampton Wanderers have joined the race to sign talented Sunderland youngster Daniel Neil, according to a latest report from Chronicle LIVE.
Fresh off the back of a report linking newly promoted side Leeds United to the academy graduate, Wolves are now said to be interested.
Sunderland have endured a difficult period in the club’s history, failing to secure promotion from League One to the Championship and suffering a number of off-field problems which includes the loss of a number of young players.
With the 2019/2020 season now done and dusted, another young talent could be set to leave the Academy of Light in Neil.
Wolves, who have had an excellent season in the Premier League and sit sixth, have emerged as an interested club in Neil, who has been a regular for the Black Cats’ under-23 side with 13 appearances to his name last season in the Premier League 2.
Neil, who has made just one senior appearance, is reportedly available for a six-figure transfer fee which would hand the Wearsiders compensation for his training and development costs, as per Football Insider.
Newcastle have also been labelled with interest via the same report by Chronicle LIVE.
Neil’s exit will only add further pressure to current owner Stewart Donald and the club’s current setup both at first team level and in the academy.
It has been nothing short of a disastrous 12 months for the Academy of Light with results on the pitch taking a complete nosedive and with countless exits already, Neil’s departure will leave many fans wondering if the club have simply given up on developing players.
