# Sunderland: Transfer target Bright Enobakhare signs for AEK Athens

**Sunderland have missed out on the chance to sign former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Bright Enobakhare after [he agreed](https://www.sportime.gr/aek/enompakare-avrio-to-vradi-patai-ellada/) a transfer to AEK Athens.**

The Black Cats will prepare for a third successive season in League One this summer and, with a [whole host of players set to leave the club on a free transfer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/afc-sunderland/vertragsende/verein/289), manager Phil Parkinson will have his work cut out to bring in a new faces.

The Wearside faithful have been extremely patient over the last 12 months with the club, owned by controversial businessman Stewart Donald, but that patience could be starting to wear extremely thin after failing to gain promotion for a second year in a row.

With Parkinson desperate to bring in some new players ahead of the 2020/21 season, transfer target Enobakhare is instead set to complete a move to Greece, no doubt disappointing many Sunderland fans who had [previously called for their club to sign him](https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sport/football/transfer-news/coventry-city-transfer-news-enobakhare-17505660).

Having been released by Wolves earlier this year following a loan spell with Wigan Athletic, Nigerian forward Enobakhare is [due](https://www.sportime.gr/aek/enompakare-avrio-to-vradi-patai-ellada/) in Greece today to sign a [three-year](https://www.sportime.gr/aek/enompakare-avrio-to-vradi-patai-ellada/) contract with AEK Athens.

The proposed deal will see any interested parties ruled out of a move, which includes newly-crowned League One champions Coventry City, [with whom the striker had a spell last term.](https://www.ccfc.co.uk/news/2019/january/transfer-bright-enobakhare-joins-sky-blues-on-loan/)

Sunderland have been interested in other striker options, with Rotherham United striker and former Swindon Town loanee Jerry Yates [linked](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-sunderland-set-sights-on-signing-striker-from-newly-promoted-club/) in recent days.

Enobakhare could have been an ideal signing for Sunderland, having struck [six goals in League One in an 18-game spell](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bright-enobakhare/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/345772) at Coventry, but his move to AEK Athens should be a step in the right direction for him personally.

If he goes on to thrive in Greece, the Black Cats’ failure to land him will seem all the more galling.
