# Liverpool: Reds make contact with Sven Botman

**[Liverpool](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league/liverpool/) have made an approach to the agent of Lille defender Sven Botman, according to reports.**

### Botman on his way to Anfield?

The 20-year-old is a highly-rated centre back and has been [compared to](https://fieldinsider.com/sven-botman/) the next Virgil van Dijk, due to his commanding presence and his style of play.

From 16 league appearances during the 2020/21 campaign, Botman has managed to average 3.9 aerial duels won, 2.9 clearances and a pass success rate of 86.4% ([Whoscored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/379732/Show/Sven-Botman)).

Foot Mercato (via [GFFN](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2020/liverpool-made-contact-for-sven-botman-in-november/)) revealed that Jurgen Klopp’s side got in touch with the Dutchman’s agent in November to enquire about his services.

Touted as a [“leader”](https://www.ligue1.com/Articles/LIGUE-1-SHOW/2020/10/03/sven-botman-lille-s-dutch-knight-rises-fonte-galtier-losc) at just 20 years old, the report added that discussions have not proceeded to any advanced stage as of yet, with Inter Milan and Ajax also interested in his services.

### Transfer Tavern Verdict

Valued at £9m by [TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sven-botman/profil/spieler/361093), sporting director Michael Edwards could be about to leap into action.

With the Reds significantly disadvantaged in the defensive department due to injuries, the 6 foot 4 giant could be the ideal player to come in as a long-term option for Jurgen Klopp.

Amid the current global pandemic, all will depend on how much majority shareholder John Henry is willing to invest in the playing squad.
