The Dutchman [came to the Liberty Stadium from Ajax three years ago](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11731/10456050/swansea-complete-transfer-of-mike-van-der-hoorn-from-ajax) and he has made [more than 100 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mike-van-der-hoorn/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/187105) for the club since, scoring [six goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mike-van-der-hoorn/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/187105) and [featuring in every Championship match for them last season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mike-van-der-hoorn/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/187105/plus/0/saison/2018/wettbewerb/GB2/verein/2288).

He is currently on course to do the same this term, having been [ever-present in the league](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/101605/MatchStatistics/Mike-van-der-Hoorn) so far in 2019/20 after [11 rounds](https://www.skysports.com/championship-table) of the Championship campaign.

Van der Hoorn’s current deal at Swansea [expires at the end of this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mike-van-der-hoorn/profil/spieler/187105) and [Wales Online](https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/mike-van-der-hoorn-fresh-16581477) reported that the club opened contract talks with him in July, having already triggered a one-year extension earlier this year to keep him at the club for the current campaign.

The 27-year-old has been a calming presence at the back for Steve Cooper’s side this season – nobody else in the squad can match his average of 4.2 successful aerial duels per game, while only Joe Rodon has exceeded his match average of 4.5 clearances. \[[via WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/259/Show/Wales-Swansea)\]

These Swansea fans on Twitter sent birthday greetings to the centre-back, with one fan even pleading for him to sign a new deal at the club:

> Happy Birthday, Mike!
>
> p.s. sign that contract x
