# Sheffield Wednesday: Fans discuss Michael Hector following play-off final

**Many Sheffield Wednesday fans have been discussing former Owls defender Michael Hector following his success with Fulham as the club were [promoted](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53603848) to the Premier League via the play-offs.**

The 28-year-old centre-back played for the Owls in the 2018/19 season, making 39 appearances, scoring twice and managing to keep 12 clean sheets, per [Transfermarkt.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michael-hector/transfers/spieler/157490)

Wednesday did not sign him on a permanent deal after his loan expired and Fulham picked him up for [£5.31m.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michael-hector/transfers/spieler/157490) Many Owls fans are happy for the centre-back, with some understandably wishing that the now-Premier League player joined Hillsborough permanently, whilst others hope that he continues to do well at Craven Cottage.

One called him “an absolute colossus” whilst another said that he “carried the team last season”, and the fact that so many Sheffield Wednesday fans are speaking highly of the player highlights what a good impression he left at the club.

Whilst Hector goes on to play for Fulham in the Premier League next season, Wednesday will be in a dogfight in the Championship as they begin with a [12-point deduction.](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53612257)

Here is what these Owls fans said about Hector following the play-off final:

> Pleased for Hector, he was great for [#SWFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/SWFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) last season…
>
> We couldn’t afford to pay what Fulham did for him, and can’t begrudge him a Premier League promotion. Quality CB.

> He’s Probably glad we couldn’t afford him after tonight 🤣 could of been a different season for him if we could.

> Hector carried the team last season (even stepping up to score pens when he got sick of everyone else missing)!
>
> Also meant Iorfa could get further up the field from RB and cause problems (which I personally think is his better position than CB – we just have no other option!).

> Big Hec was immense in keeping Watkins quiet. I don’t remember Onomah being that good for us either! [#swfc](https://twitter.com/hashtag/swfc?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> He wasn’t worth what Fulham paid for him.
>
> 6 months away from a free transfer.
>
> Sat not playing until he could in January.

> Michael Hector is an absolute colossus. What signing he was for Fulham. The guy deserves Prem football [@Big\_Hec35](https://twitter.com/Big_Hec35?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw). Also brilliant for former [#swfc](https://twitter.com/hashtag/swfc?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) boss Stuart Gray.
