# Sheffield Wednesday: Fans react as Owls reportedly interested in Chey Dunkley

**The transfer window is always an exciting time of the year for fans as they hope for the team they support to add some good additions to the squad, and a lot of Sheffield Wednesday fans are reacting to their club’s transfer links with Chey Dunkley.**

The Star journalist Dom Howe [tweeted](https://twitter.com/domhowson/status/1293510305490898944?s=20): “Led to believe [#SWFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/SWFC?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1293510305490898944%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.footballtransfertavern.com%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost.php%3Fpost%3D313813action%3Dedit&src=hashtag_click) are interested in signing former Wigan defender Chey Dunkley. The[28-year-old](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/chey-dunkley/leistungsdaten/spieler/217094) is available on a free transfer, having left Wigan at the end of last season.”

The centre-back is at a good age to be signed and he has good experience in the Championship. He played 26 times in the division last season, keeping [seven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/chey-dunkley/leistungsdaten/spieler/217094) clean sheets and averaging 3.9 clearances a game, per [WhoScored.](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/138779/Show/Cheyenne-Dunkley)

The player is valued at £1.08m by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/chey-dunkley/leistungsdaten/spieler/217094), so the fact that Sheffield Wednesday could get him on a free transfer would seem an astute piece of business. The only worry, however, is that he is only recently fit again after [suffering](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8579235/Watford-Bristol-City-keeping-tabs-Wigan-defender-Chey-Dunkley.html) a double leg break in February, so he would need time to recover in order to get match-fit for the 2020/21 season.

Here is what these Owls fans said following the tweet from Howson:

> Would be a great signing this lad. Scores a few for a defender as well.

> Good signing if true. Urgently need some new bodies in and allow GM some form of pre-season with them

> If he can play in the middle of a back 3, that would be good. Try and move JVA on and get a stronger LCB of the three 👍 [#swfc](https://twitter.com/hashtag/swfc?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> If we are going to get anyone from Wigan then we need a good combative defensive midfield like Sam Morsy.
