# Tottenham Hotspur: Pete O’Rourke tips Spurs to sign Tariq Lamptey

**Journalist Pete O’Rourke has tipped Fabio Paratici and Tottenham to sign Brighton right-back Tariq Lamptey, as he would be an ‘ideal fit’ for Antonio Conte’s side, as per [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/87970793-87970793).**

### The Lowdown: Spurs’ right-back search

It was [well-publicised](https://www.givemesport.com/1824838-tottenham-transfer-news-fresh-update-emerges-on-contes-plan-for-the-rest-of-january) that the Italian was aiming to bring in a right-back or right wing-back during the January transfer window.

Tottenham were close to signing [Adama Traore](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10455401/Adama-Traore-seals-dramatic-return-former-club-Barcelona-rejecting-Antonio-Contes-Spurs.html) from Wolves before he was whisked away to Barcelona on a loan deal, with the Spanish giants able to make it permanent for £30m. Having fallen short of Wolves’ valuation with a £15m offer, it seems that the 26-year-old was [not keen](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10455401/Adama-Traore-seals-dramatic-return-former-club-Barcelona-rejecting-Antonio-Contes-Spurs.html) on playing right wing-back for Conte anyway, leaving Paratici in a desperate hunt for a replacement.

Conte will be hoping that this can be rectified in the summer. Tottenham have previously been interested in Brighton’s [Tariq Lamptey](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/12334196/tariq-lamptey-tottenham-interested-in-signing-brighton-right-wing-back-this-summer), but the Seagulls demanded a [£50m fee](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9694977/Tottenham-make-summer-bid-Brighton-starlet-Tariq-Lamptey-Seagulls-want-50m.html), pushing the north London club away from a transfer.

### The Latest: O’Rourke tips Spurs to sign Lamptey

Despite that setback, O’Rourke has tipped Spurs recruitment chief Paratici to again try and sign Lamptey in the summer transfer window.

Speaking to [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/87970793-87970793), he proclaimed: “Lamptey will be an interesting one. He’s obviously a talented player who’s had injury problems which have maybe held him back at Brighton, but he would be an ideal fit for Tottenham.”

### The Verdict: Fantastic prospect

Having returned from a long-term [hamstring injury](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tariq-lamptey/verletzungen/spieler/504148), the 21-year-old has yet to hit the ground running this season, starting just [nine league games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tariq-lamptey/leistungsdaten/spieler/504148) thus far.

However, the former Chelsea player’s quality is clear to see, with legendary England full-back [Ashley Cole](https://www.sussexlive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/lamptey-responds-carragher-cole-comments-4533436) hailing him a ‘dangerous’ player.

Brighton manager [Graham Potter](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/graham-potter-full-of-praise-for-tariq-lamptey-ahead-of-chelsea-return-1640730605000) has always been full of praise for Lamptey, having exclaimed that “he’s a great guy, a great lad, \[he\] does his best, \[and\] he’s a bit of a dream really as a player”.

Therefore, it’s easy to see why Tottenham may be interested in the right-back, especially given their circumstances. However, it will likely take a substantial offer for Brighton to let him go.
