# Rangers: Ian Baraclough drops Steven Davis injury news

**Glasgow Rangers have now been given a big injury boost involving central midfield player Steven Davis.**

### The Lowdown: Injury problems

Davis has been struggling with injury problems at Ibrox this season, and so has only managed to make [24](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/steven-davis/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/28973/plus/0?saison=2021&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) appearances in total over all competitions so far.

\[freshpress-poll id=”342340″\]

He has not featured since the [3-0](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/steven-davis/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/28973/plus/0?saison=2021&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) win away at Annan Athletic in the Scottish Cup last month, but has been [called up](https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/spfl/scottish-premiership/steven-davis-retirement-addressed-rangers-23383929) to the Northern Ireland squad for their upcoming friendly games against Luxembourg and Hungary respectively.

### The Latest: Baraclough update

As quoted by [Football Scotland](https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/spfl/scottish-premiership/steven-davis-retirement-addressed-rangers-23383929), NI manager Ian Baraclough has claimed that Davis should be fit to play for the national team despite his injury setbacks, and questioned why he would be considering retirement:

*“Some people seem to want him to retire, I don’t know why, he’s playing as well as ever.*

*“He’s had a couple of setbacks, a small calf issue and thigh issue, but I’ve not been told he won’t be fit for us come next week.”*

### The Verdict: Big boost

If Davis is deemed fit enough to play for his country, then it will be a big boost for the Teddy Bears for the rest of the campaign, assuming he returns unscathed after the break.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has already [revealed](https://twitter.com/RangersFC/status/1504028322191269888) that Ryan Kent is now available to play Red Star Belgrade in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night after [limping off](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ryan-kent-rangers-injury-sweat-26457311) against Dundee, and although Davis is not, it seems he should be fit after the international fixtures.

The 37-year-old ranks [highly](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/306/Show/Scotland-Rangers) among his teammates in terms of average passes and at a high success rate, and so is vital in keeping things ticking in the middle of the park.

His leadership qualities, given that he has [captained](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/steven-davis/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/28973/plus/0?saison=2021&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) the side on a couple of occasions this term, will also be crucial in the title race against Celtic, in which they will have to show a lot of character if they are to overcome their city rivals.
