Despite signing five players over the summer, Arsenal will still need to dip into the January transfer market to improve the squad and need to sign a winger and quite possibly another central defender.

Despite signing Borussia Dortmund defender, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, with Shkodran Mustafi still regarded as the club's first choice defender, Unai Emery must sign a replacement.

They do also have Rob Holding but aside from that, there isn't much depth in the side. According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are interested in Manchester United defender Eric Bailly who has now attracted the interest of French Champions, Paris Saint-Germain.

The Breakdown

The 24-year-old defender has fallen out of favour with Jose Mourinho and in combination with his injury record, he has only played five games in the league with one in Europe.

Mourinho has chosen to play Victor Lindelof at the back with Chris Smalling and will likely be after another defender in January.

Although at times, Bailly has shown some form - especially in the early part of his Man U career - the defender isn't the man for Emery's defence.

His injury record is abysmal, and after years of having to deal with a cast of unavailable players, Arsenal have to resist a deal for the defender.

As the club goes forward in a new era, Emery needs a world class defender to lead the team and form a solid base of his new-look side. Emery must look elsewhere in January or Arsenal could be about to make a huge mistake.
