Aston Villa gave up a 2-0 lead to lose to Leeds yesterday in a game where Dean Smith's side should've sealed the three points over the league leaders.

Thanks to goals from Tammy Abraham and Conor Hourihane, Vill went into half-time two goals up and looked as though they were going to cruise to victory yesterday. In the second-half, however, Leeds dominated the game and managed to score three goals against a defence that looked as though it was missing loan man, Axel Tuanzebe.

Following the game, Dean Smith admitted that Villa are light in defence and that he may be forced to recall Tommy Elphick who is currently on loan at Hull City.

The Breakdown

James Bree was drafted in to play in defence yesterday but as it stands, Smith only has one out and out centre-back at the club. While Smith has turned the side into one of the best attacking teams in the league, he has also improved them in defence too. Regardless, he needs to add numbers to the defence if he wants to keep Villa in the race for the playoffs.

The loss now means that Villa are five points off sixth place and are now 11th in the table. Tuanzebe and Chester had formed a solid partnership at the back for Smith but without the Man U loanee his squad is now at the barebones in defence.

Smith must be active in the transfer market and must bring in a defender if they want to stay in the race for the playoffs.
