Southampton struggled to score goals last year without Charlie Austin and over the summer Mark Hughes brought in Liverpool man, Danny Ings on loan for the season.
The Liverpool man has so far had an instant impact on the side and has scored three goals in seven games for the south coast club. Despite his reasonable form, Southampton have struggled to win this year and have so far only beaten Crystal Palace while having lost five games in the league.
Due to their poor form, the Daily Mirror has linked the club with a move for AS Roma striker, Edin Dzeko.
Following Bosnia and Herzegovina’s win over Northern Ireland last night – a game in which Dzeko scored twice – the former Man City man admitted his love for English football and that has, therefore, opened the door for a return back to the Premier League.
It’s been a fairly slow start to the season for Dzeko by his standards as he’s only scored two goals in seven games so far in Serie A. Last season the underrated forward scored 16 goals in 36 games for Roma and the season before that, he scored 29 in 37.
Undervalued during his time at City, over the last two years in Italy, he’s proven himself as one of the best strikers in Europe and it would seem fairly unlikely that Southampton would be able to sign him.
Valued at £22.5 million, the 32-year-old is now within the last two years of his contract and it seems very unlikely that this move would happen.
