According to the Nottingham Post, Nottingham Forest are on the hunt for the signature of West Ham’s Sam Byram this summer.

The 24-year-old has struggled to break into the first team at the London Stadium since his move to the Hammers in 2016. Now, a return to Championship level looks to be on the agenda, with big-spending Forest set to make yet another addition this summer in the form of the right-back.

Before that deal is over the line though, a few of the Red’s division rivals may want to muscle in on the negotiations and attempt to make Byram their own.

The Breakdown

Recently relegated West Brom are in need of reinforcements this summer, having already lost several key squad members during this transfer window.

The exodus looks set to continue, with Craig Dawson having handed in a transfer request at the Hawthorns, according to Sky Sports.

With Dawson’s impending exit, the need for Darren Moore to begin bringing in some new defensive recruits is becoming paramount. Hijacking Forest’s move for Byram would be a good way to get the Baggies’ back line rebuild started.

Byram has already shown during his time with Leeds that he is capable of excelling in the Championship. At this stage of his career, he needs to be playing regularly and he is more than capable of getting consistent game time in the second tier.

West Brom fans will be expecting the club to play attacking, entertaining football this season, and the signing of Byram would fit that remit. All in all, Byram would be a great capture for Moore, but the Baggies will have to act fast to get their man before he finds himself plying his trade at the City Ground.
