It may not have been a brilliant and exciting game but impressively, Everton held Chelsea to a draw in what was a very responsible and defensive performance from The Toffees.
Everton have put together a solid run of form and have only lost one in their last six games in the league – the only loss coming to Man U. Key to that form has been Richarlison’s emergence as an out and out striker after being converted from a winger by Marco Silva.
Moreover, Andre Gomes has finally returned from injury and in his four games for Everton, he has shown that he could be a quality addition to the side.
Even more crucial to the side, has been Gylfi Sigurdsson who has scored five goals in 12 games for Everton in the league.
Worryingly for Everton, both players have pulled out of their respective international sides and will remain at the club to continue treatment from injuries picked up against Chelsea.
Richarlison is rightly recognised as the star of the team and as such, Everton’s fate rests on how well he performs up front.
However, Sigurdsson’s superb form of late has been essential to Everton and the former Swansea City midfielder would be a huge loss to Silva’s attack.
While Gomes doesn’t score goals, the midfielder has world-class talent and if Marco Silva can harness that, he could have a star on his hands. If both players are injured, it could put a huge dent in Everton’s recent run of form.
