Sunderland look a completely different team since Stewart Donald took over at the club during the summer but the club owner could be about to face a huge decision.

The Black Cats have been one of the best sides in the league this season and look as though they're going to push Portsmouth for the title.

The club made a lot of signings over the summer to improve the quality of the side but one player that has led the team this season, is academy graduate, Josh Maja. The forward has been one of the best in the league this season but is yet to sign a new deal with the club, with his current deal running out next summer.

Manager, Jack Ross has admitted that he wants the contract situation resolved soon as the longer it continues, the worse it will get for all parties concerned.

The Breakdown

The 18-year-old forward has blossomed for Sunderland this season since being installed as the first-choice forward at the club. When Joel Asoro departed the club, it left a huge avoid up front but thanks to his 12 goals, they remain right in the hunt for the league title.

Sunderland are in a tough negotiating position at the moment. If the forward doesn't sign a new deal, he will likely walk away on a free next summer and potentially move to a Championship rival if they get promoted this season. If that is the case, they may well be forced to sell him in January in order to receive a fee.

Either way, Maja's current situation is a potentially huge issue for the club.
