It's been a season of vast improvement for Sunderland as under new manager, Jack Ross, the club has bounced back from successive relegations to become one of the best sides in the league as they currently sit second in the table.

Over the summer, Sunderland were incredibly active in the transfer market as new owner, Stewart Donald, gave Ross a host of new recruits. Within those new arrivals were the likes of Charlie Wyke, Luke O'Nien and Jack Baldwin.

The club's best player, however, has been academy man, Josh Maja who so far this season has scored 10 goals in 16 appearances in the league and is only behind Tom Eaves as the league's top scorer.

Unfortunately for Sunderland, Maja's current deal with the club runs out at the end of the season and according to Bristol Live via The Sunderland Echo, Bristol City are considering a move for the Sunderland man.

The Breakdown

While Sunderland look a much better side under Ross, Maja is a huge part of their resurgence. Last summer, the club lost Joel Asoro to Swansea and can't afford to lose Maja who is has shown that he is the better of the two strikers.

Charlie Wyke has been ruled out until Christmas and with Jerome Sinclair struggling for form, Sunderland's promotion hopes would take a huge hit if Maja were to leave.

Sunderland cannot allow him to depart in January even if they are forced to let him leave on a free next summer.
