Newcastle’s poor start to the season continued last weekend as the Magpies were held to a 0-0 draw by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
In what turned out to be a fairly poor game in south London, Newcastle struggled to have any real effect on the game and only managed three shots on target and are 18th in the league. They now go into two tough games against Leicester City and Manchester United needing to pick up some points but in what could come as another blow for Rafa Benitez, Salomon Rondon was forced off with an apparent injury and it’s unsure if he’ll be fit enough for this weekend’s game against Leicester City.
Rondon came off at half-time due to a quad injury and has so far only managed just three starts for Newcastle since joining on loan from West Brom over the summer. Following the game, Benitez confirmed that he was substituted because of that injury and that he will be assessed ahead of the Leicester game.
So far this season Newcastle have struggled to score goals and have only managed four in the Premier League, something that has contributed massively to the club’s winless streak this summer.
If Rondon is out of the Leicester game, it leaves Benitez with the inconsistent Joselu to play up front who although he’s scored two goals this year, is not the kind of player you want to have to rely on in the long run.
