After a terrible season, Newcastle recorded their second win of the season as they beat Bournemouth 2-1 to climb to 14th in the table thanks to a brace from Salomon Rondon.
Much to the anger of the Newcastle fans, Mike Ashley failed to pump in much money into the squad over the summer. Despite selling Aleksandar Mitrovic over the summer, Newcastle apparently didn’t have much money to spend over the summer and as a result, only signed West Brome striker, Rondon on loan for the season.
The former Zenit St Petersburg striker has had a slow start to the season so far this year, has mostly played a bit-part role for the club due to injury.
At the weekend, however, he had his best game for the club and finally performed to the level that Newcastle need him to play at if they are going to survive in the Premier League.
Following that performance, talk has begun to emerge of Newcastle possibly signing the forward to a permanent deal and Rafa Benitez has admitted that it could be a possibility.
Although Rondon hasn’t and will never be a prolific striker, he remains a perfect fit for Benitez’s system. His hold up play is excellent and on his day, he can be a handful for any defence.
In a side that looks to keep a solid defensive structure and play off a strong number nine, Rondon is an ideal fit. There aren’t many forward options for Newcastle at the moment and therefore, Benitez must sign him to a permanent deal.
