Leeds United have made a great start to the season but on Saturday, the Yorkshire side were beaten 2-1 by Birmingham City following a brace from Che Adams.

Up until Saturday's game, Leeds had been the form team in the Championship and had only been held to draws by Middlesbrough, Swansea and Millwall. Under Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds have been transformed into a side that plays a high energy and suffocating style of football but with that, also comes the heavy demand on the players. Over the last few weeks it has seemingly caught up with the players as Pablo Hernandez, Kemar Roofe and Gaetano Berardi have all missed the last few games due to injury.

After beating Preston 3-0 during the week it looked as though Leeds would be able to cope with the injuries but Saturday turned that on its head. The club go into a crucial game on Friday against Sheffield Wednesday and according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist, Phil Hay, Berardi could return for the match on Friday.

The Breakdown

In partnership with Liam Cooper, Berardi had formed one of the best defensive partnerships in the league and even though Pontus Jansson has come in and played well, the Switzerland international had been superb before his injury. His ability with the ball and pace is essential in Bielsa's system and although the Argentine desperately needs Roofe and Hernandez back, Berardi is a start.

Moreover, with Berardi back, Bielsa could well switch to three at the back, a formation he's played before in the past and one that could make Leeds much stronger at the back.
