Despite undertaking his first senior managerial job, Steven Gerrard has got off to a fairly solid start at Rangers as his side sit second in the league and held Villareal to a 2-2 draw in their first game of Europa League group stages.
In order to try and topple Celtic ‘s dominance at the top of the table, Rangers brought in 16 new players to give Gerrard a squad capable of finally winning a league title. Among those new recruits, on loan midfielder Lassana Coulibaly has looked very impressive so far this season and has some much-needed physicality to Rangers’ midfield.
Such has been the performances of the on-loan Angers midfielder that according to The Sun, Gerrard wants to sign him on a permanent deal come January. If Rangers can sign the Mali international to a permanent deal, they could have a future star on their hands.
The midfielder was a key reason in Rangers qualifying for the Europa League and has so far played three matches in the Scottish Premiership and has scored one goal and also recorded one assist.
Capable of playing further back in front of the back four but also as an advanced centre midfielder, Coulibaly has been a rock for Gers and valued at just £1.13 million, it could be an excellent cut-price deal for the club. Moreover, at just 22, the midfielder still has a lot of potential to fulfil and in time could well be sold on for a much bigger fee.
So Rangers fans, what do you think?
