A terrible start to the season, a poor defence and already one manager down. Aston Villa's season has been awful so far and unless there's a drastic change, it looks like the club could be in for a tough season.

Despite scoring 20 goals in the league, Villa have struggled to gather any semblance of form and so far they are entrenched in 15th, nine places off the playoff spots.

Following the dismissal of Steve Bruce, Villa had been linked with a move for Thierry Henry and Rui Faria with both apparently rejecting moves to the Championship side.

The Breakdown

Despite having been Mourinho's assistant at Man U, Chelsea, Inter and Real Madrid, Faria has no experience of being a first-team manager and therefore would have been a very bold call.

Like the club's approach for Faria, a move for Henry, another fairly inexperienced coach, isn't the move Villa needed to make. Again, like Faria, Henry rejected a move to the Midlands club.

With both declining a move to Villa, it not only shows that the club are desperate but it also shows that the board doesn't have a plan of action post-Bruce.

It remains to be seen who will eventually take over the job at Villa but right now it seems that the club are very much in panic mode, which for a side that should be competing in the playoffs, isn't good. Villa need to appoint a man who's got experience in the league and who can take them back to the Premiership.
