Under Chris Wilder, Sheffield United have become one of the best teams in the Championship and, as it stands, they remain one of the favourites to gain promotion this season.

With Billy Sharp in the side, Sheffield have become one of the best attacking sides in the league this season and thanks to the Sheffield local, United have managed to get into the playoff places and could well find themselves back in the Premier League come next year.

As we approach the second-half of the season Wilder will need to call on the full remit of his squad to be able to keep them in the playoff hunt.

While David McGoldrick has performed well this season according to The Sun, United are considering making a move for Bournemouth forward, Jermain Defoe.

The Breakdown

During his time with Sunderland, Defoe had proven himself to be a reliable goalscorer for the Black Cats and was one of the key reasons Sunderland managed to fight off relegation for so long.

When the club got relegated, Defoe joined Bournemouth on a free transfer which looked like a brilliant move by the Cherries but ever since his return to the south coast, Defoe has struggled to replicate the form he showed at Sunderland.

This season he's barely featured for the club in the league and it seems like he could well be available for a six-month loan deal for Sunderland.

At 36, he doesn't need to start too many games but merely be a backup to Sharp.
