Leeds were handed their first loss in the Championship at the weekend as former United manager Garry Monk guided his Birmingham City side to a 2-1 win over the league leaders.

Unusually for the league leaders, Leeds lacked their usual cohesion and high quality attacking play. There again, without star men Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe, Leeds were always going to struggle to match their usual intensity.

This week, Bielsa issued a worrying injury update on new signings, Patrick Bamford and Izzy Brown. Both players will be out for a sustained period of time with Brown still recovering from a knee injury he picked up last season.

The Breakdown

Over the summer, Leeds decided to have a relatively quiet transfer window and didn't make too many moves over the summer. Indeed, the only two permanent signings were Barry Douglas and the now injured Patrick Bamford.

Under Bielsa's demanding style of play, it was always likely that the players would suffer injuries and to bring in a loan player who was already recovering from one himself, represents a massive error in judgement.

Leeds had to bring in suitable replacements over the summer and to sign a player who wouldn't be able to make an instant impact on the squad must rank up there with Arsenal signing Kim Kallstrom.
