With Stewart Donald now at the club, Sunderland now look like they're back on track and on course to be promoted to the Championship come the end of the season.

Over the summer, the new owner appointed Jack Ross to manage the club and he's quickly turned Sunderland into one of the best sides in the league. They've scored 41 goals in the league this season thanks to Josh Maja while also only conceding 19, one more than league leaders Portsmouth.

As we approach January, the fans will be expecting the club to reinvest into the squad in order to maintain their push towards the title. While they will be expecting some players to arrive at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland are at risk at losing Lynden Gooch and Josh Maja, with both their contracts running out at the end of the season.

In what will come as a great relief to the fans, Donald has posted that he feels confident that Gooch will sign soon while he was also coy over Maja's current situation.

The Breakdown

Both players have been superb for Sunderland this season and thanks to them, Sunderland now finds itself chasing promotion after two years of sliding down the table. Maja has been a star this season and has scored 12 goals in the league this season. Gooch too has been outstanding and has scored five while also creating eight.

With the two players in the side, Sunderland have one of the best-attacking duos in the league and two players who are capable of taking them back to the Championship.
